OMG, a much-needed break! For my friends who don't know yet, I was stuck with the nastiest (in terms of schedule) team for the last 3 weeks - arriving at 7.15am everyday, ending anywhere from 5-7pm, and Sat/Sun as well. So now I have a break!! Going at 8am tomorrow, how nice!

Anyway, just got back from my gran's place in Malaysia. Don't normally blog about any of these JB trips, but I had quite a good time there, especially with yx around. We did a BBQ on Sat night with tonnes of food - wild boar satay, mushrooms wrapped in bacon, chicken chipolatas, sausages, chicken wings etc. The pit lost balance and fell halfway through though, gross. And there was this AMAZING guy - a Scotsman actually, who lived in Singapore some 40 years ago and is now a retired photographer renting a little hut in my gran's garden .. to live out his life, I suppose. Still, it's so cool! You know, you read of all these rustic people renting little huts, wiring the place up to get electricity (yellow incandescent bulbs, no less!), with shelves of books in there, and tubs of home-made lager and ale. By "hut", I really mean a wooden thatched hut with 1 room and a "living room" half the size of the room itself. No toilet, no water - those, he uses from the main house. How cool is that?!? Also, he gathered some logs and leaves and made quite a bonfire in front of the hut, and there - another BBQ pit!

Yx and I decided to spend some time looking for fireflies, and XX was thrilled as well. XX was still watching a vampire show (the Chinese kind that hop around and have somewhat bluish faces) and told us to call her if we spot any. It was pitch-black in the plantation - you know, out in the country, with blackness that can swallow you whole - and we did spot quite a lot of fireflies. When XX and XT came together, however, they BOTH freaked out because of the darkness and fled back to the house without seeing the fireflies ... duh!! One of them flew really close by though, it's a pity I didn't bring Froggy with me then.

Right, enough yakking .. some pics.

Visit to dad's plantation - he's actually growing those oil palms (foreground), but while waiting for the silly trees to get larger he leased the land out to a pineapple farmer who plants them between the palm seedlings and provides free fertiliser. OK, that makes it sound like dad's a farmer - he's far too lazy for that; people are hired instead. =

Globe Amaranth in gran's garden

Longans

Wild boar satay - made from a large one shot by my uncle a couple days ago.

Another plant from gran's garden - a pink Cosmos. Just learnt (and tried it) today that you can EAT the growing points of Cosmos - they have a wild, fierce, zangy taste rather like unripe mangoes without the sourness.

XT plucking wild ferns by the roadside for lunch - Yx joined the Adam's Family today by eating ferns too, muahahaha! It wasn't that bad what, was it? She claims we're all weird because we cook ferns, potato leaves, tapioca leaves, green tomato curries and green papaya soup. =p

A beautiful white cow with her 2 calves (was about to say "cowlings", WTF ...)
