The Wuss CultureThe most vexing thing about working with my current bosses is that they are all complete wusses, which really begs the question - are they not expected to also know how to manage problems outside their own specialty? I remember thoroughly respecting my previous bosses - they worked, not by labs or numbers or charts, but by clinical acumen, experience and confidence. That, is the art of medicine. Indeed, a favorite previous boss told me, "Medicine is the art of practicing science." Now, my current bosses. They are wusses. High blood pressure? Ooooh! Let's all freak out and ask the cardiologist in! I'm exaggerating of course, but not by much. Ever heard of over-treating? I think they've just done that. It's not that they can't handle the issues - it's just that they are frightened, that they want to cover their own asses, that they want to shove responsibility to the cardiologist, infectious physician, respiratory physician etc.
Changing to yet another boss today. 21 more days, 3 more calls. Can't wait to be rid of this bunch of nincompoops.
