"Rumours of his poor health are common, and were fuelled in January 2007 when he was admitted to a hospital in Singapore for two weeks - missing an Independence Day dinner for military leaders and officials."

I am ashamed that these creeps are actually granted entry - and offered treatment - right here in Singapore! Medicine knows no discrimination to patient's backgrounds, but no. Definitely not in this case. They jolly well have their own medical services in their own country to indulge in. We might as well start welcoming ex-SS officers here for Botox injections.

****

And here we go again. For the umpteenth time in recent weeks. Woke up all tired and fatigued and to top it all off, I'll be all alone on my own this afternoon.

Wish me luck for tonight!

Almost 25% of my way through ... it does look better in percentages than in days, eh? Once again, really missing all my friends. Haven't really heard much from everyone, but there still are times when nostalgia sets in - especially when I walk past the level 4 call rooms (Women's Weekly? Lubricant-filled gloves?) or into the staff lounge.

Parents finally coming home today, yay! Looking forward to beach and sun on Saturday. Been a long while, and I'm turning a very nasty shade of latte.

It's really sad to have calls placed so close together - you've barely gotten over the horror of the previous one, and all of a sudden you're all depressed again.

Had some fun last night though! Went for a lovely dinner with Yx's family early in the evening, then went home for MAF celebrations. Mom bought loads of paper lanterns this year, and we had quite a feast in the garden. One lantern came dropping down in flames though, brushing against Yx and falling near Brownie. =(

Lanterns that Yx painstakingly put up on twine strung around the garden.

The feast! Yx and Xx made this strange punch with a mix of Ribena and honey - which really was pretty good!

Brownie's cake - he got over the burning lantern thing after eating this all up.

Thinking of buying a new wallet, haha - but I can't bear to part with my current one, especially since it was such a treasured gift! Still a TONNE of administrative stuff to complete, and many of them must be done soon, but I'm in such an aphathetic mood right now. Slowly getting personal finances into order though (yeah, it did take me 5 months, I know).

Realise that I miss people much more when on call. Wish me luck for tonight!! As usual, I fail to sleep enough prior to a call.

Fri, and I'm not excited at all ... small wonder why, really. On a more cheerful note, a small aspect of life is starting to get into order. Found this really nice place to park some savings, and I got my account set up yesterday. And then I realised .. what savings?!? Lol .. at least, it'll be an incentive of sorts.

Let's hope I last through tonight!

Posts have been pretty sparse lately, and I apologise for that. Been caught up with life in general, the usual ups and downs and getting excited over upcoming things. Some notable stuff:

1) I'm left with 5 Triops! Wei has 1 with her, and I've managed to transfer all 5 of mine into the new tank. They seem to be enjoying the space in there, and I think are starting to lay eggs again.

2) Caught Ratatouille at last yesterday! It was a lovely show, although at times rather far-fetched. Apparently Yx thinks that the rat cooks in the same way as I do. =\ Haha ..

3) Waiting for a couple of letters to come my way, and I still haven't started reading my new issue of Hardware Mag.

4) Bought a lovely tub of bath salts this weekend (it's Pamper Ourselves Weekend), but haven't got the chance to use it.

5) Finally sent my car for servicing. Thanks to Yx and Mom, who incessantly buzz around my ears about it. =)

6) The new people are finally starting on their calls this week, so hopefully we'll be less squeezed.

7) Decided to forego the holiday trip so that Monty can actually start planning. It's such a pain, when I'm restricted by other people for leave. Want to bitch about specific people here, but that wouldn't be appropriate. Once again, I so miss my friends from Surgery. You guys are the greatest ever!

Another week. 2 down. 14 more.

This is very sad. I bought a new tank for my Triops (needed a treat that night, I seriously did), filled it with water, put 3 of them in, and the next afternoon they were dead. I think it's osmotic shock or something. In any case, I'm now left with 5 of my own and XW has 1. Down from the 12 I started off with, and 50% mortality is sad, considering that the last time, both of mine survived to adulthood.

Call again tonight. I just want to survive.

My usual pre-call grousings again, so hold on to your seats while I get this done. But seriously. Spent some (very depressing) time wondering if I really want to spend the next 5 years living like this. If only they decided to keep up with the rest of the developed world - by working in shifts instead, and adding a working time cap. But no - being the Chinese at heart as we are, every bit of usable juice MUST be squeezed out of your employees, at the least amount of expense possible. Tried getting extra sleep last night, but it really didn't work out - still woke at odd hours (twice last night) and couldn't get back to sleep. I KNOW I'm not deprived of sleep today, but it would have been nice to keep an hour or two of extras under my belt, in preparation for the massacre tonight. But I'm so grateful, nonetheless. I have company this morning at least, and I know that I can always SMS my friends and feel like there's still a life out there. Pretty excited about the prospects of going on a trip soon actually, but at the same time, the time factor - I'm going to try and see what I can do about it, but as of now, hopes are pretty dim.

Some pictures to spice up the blog:

Yx and I had some REALLY rigorous Shim-Sham training yesterday (and I was told I got increasingly grouchy) and treated ourselves to some shopping at Raffles City. Lunch was pretty ok - nice presentation of the soft-shelled crab in a glass!

Oooooh, and Yx discovered that the Jason's Marketplace there sold Haggis!!! We bought one and she painstakingly cooked it for an hour. As the rhyme goes:

The Haggis is a funny Beast
To make it, strong men toil
But in cooking, it is delicate
NEVER should it boil.

It'll sit at "sub-boiling"
For the best part of a day
Until the time arrives at last
To carry it on a tray.

Brought back so many memories of nearly 1.5 years ago, when life was still good. Of course, Brownie ate his fair share of Haggis as well. Yay!! The next time I'm at Jasons, I'll buy several of them to stock up in the freezer. Now, if only they sold black pudding as well ...

Lychee mojito from Yx's recipe - still one of the best lazy-weekend drinks ever! It's a bitch to make, though.

Tom-yam that we cooked last weekend. Reminds me of YX's room-mates in Madison, who slurped the stuff down despite suffering from gastritis. =) Once again, feeling nostalgic.

Last night's BBQ:

Tuesday night, before dance practice - amusing sight, a crane parked in front of a church, with the sign "Reserved For Pastor" in front.

YX in a massage chair before our Saturday practice.

Last, but not least, some of the Triops. They are 1 week old now, and about 2cm long from head to end of tail. I gave one to my sis XW, hehe ... YX resolutely refused to adopt one!

Sigh ... to add to my misery, some of my nurses had to email me and ask how I'm doing! Really touched, but kept feeling this tinge of sadness. Have to get over it somehow, and every time I walk past my old wards I keep wanting to run in there for a bit of sanity. Hope the new people in those wards treat them nicely, they are (for the most part) a fantastic bunch of nurses.

Last of those great times:

And Triops:

Already feeling half-dead right now, and will be on call tonight. Horrid. Still miss my friends. =( Once again, I find myself very deprived of private time. Seems like as time goes by, I start to truly appreciate my real priorities in life, and what I truly want out of it.

Hope I won't flop and die tonight! (or if I even last the day, for that matter)

Been such a long, long time since I last wrote! Tonnes of pics to post as well. Finally ended my 4-month stint, and it was a sad parting. Sad, sad, sad parting. Now struggling to come to terms with a totally new life, and I'm quite frankly hating every single day of it. Oh dear. Maybe it's just the first few days? Having good friends around really makes all the difference in the world. It really does.

Had a last outing on Sunday, when we stuffed ourselves at Brewerkz before heading down for a vicious game of paintball. Everyone was muddy, most were bruised (like really big patches of blue and black) and many were bleeding. Fun!!! Haha. Good times.

Oh well. Gotta live through this shit I guess. I knew it was coming, and it has come. Life's really a bitch sometimes, and I'm so thankful that I'll always have something to look forward to at the end of everyday.

Also, I restarted on Triops again. Took some of the eggs laid by the 2 I used to have, and now I have 12 babies that are 1 week old!

Life is missed. Sorely.
